Fredericksburg has come a long way with walkability. I was born there and moved back after 20 years in New York State. Newer developments in Stafford are much more pedestrian conscious as well. The VRE is a classy commuter line but the schedule is very confined to particular times of day compared to NYC's commuter lines.
